Which milk frother should you choose, and why?

Tap a name or swipe to switch.

Original: simple and affordable

The Original does three things: hot foam for cappuccino and latte, cold foam for iced coffee, and heating and stirring milk or hot chocolate. Cold foam is ready in about 70 seconds, hot foam in 90 to 180 seconds.

The inside has a PFAS-free non-stick coating, so residue comes off easily. A Strix temperature controller stops automatically at around 65 °C.

Choose the Original if you
  • are looking for an affordable, reliable frother
  • mainly make 1 or 2 cappuccinos at a time
  • want to keep it simple: one button
Less suitable if you
  • want your milk to touch only glass or stainless steel
  • want to put the jug in the dishwasher
Why this price? A jug with a non-stick coating, three fixed functions and the smallest capacity. No glass and no display. That’s why it’s one of the most affordable models.

Plus: choose how warm your milk gets

The Plus has four settings: hot thick foam, hot thin foam, hot milk or hot chocolate, and cold foam. For each setting, you choose the temperature: 55, 60, 65 or 70 °C. The LED screen shows the measured temperature.

After hot foam or hot milk, the Plus keeps your milk at 65 °C for up to 30 minutes. You froth up to 140 ml and heat up to 270 ml.

Choose the Plus if you
  • want to choose the temperature of your milk yourself
  • want to choose between thick and thin foam
  • want to keep your milk warm after frothing
  • want an affordable model with a screen
Less suitable if you
  • want to put the jug in the dishwasher: you wash it by hand
  • want to heat baby milk: only the Digital has a setting for that
Why this price? Four settings, an adjustable temperature and an LED screen, with a simple jug that you wash by hand. That’s why it costs the same as the Original.

Crystal: your milk only touches glass and stainless steel

The jug is glass with a stainless steel base. Your milk never comes into contact with a coating, and because the jug is transparent, you can see exactly how thick your foam gets.

Five programmes: hot thick foam, hot thin foam, cold foam, heating and hot chocolate. You froth up to 150 ml, enough for 2 cappuccinos, and heat up to 250 ml. Jug, lid and whisk can go in the dishwasher.

Choose the Crystal if you
  • want your milk to touch only glass and stainless steel
  • make 1 to 2 cappuccinos at a time
  • want to choose between thick and thin foam
  • want to be able to put everything in the dishwasher
Less suitable if you
  • make foam for 3 or more people at once
  • want a separate setting for baby milk or plant-based milk
Why this price? You pay for the glass jug with stainless steel base: no coating and dishwasher safe. With five programmes and a smaller capacity, it’s more affordable than the Digital.

Induction: uncoated stainless steel jug, for more milk

The Induction heats by induction, so the milk warms evenly without hotspots or burning on. The jug is stainless steel, without a non-stick coating, and has clear volume markings.

With one button and a digital display, you choose from four programmes: hot milk foam, hot milk, hot chocolate and cold milk foam. You froth up to 200 ml and heat up to 400 ml.

Choose the Induction if you
  • don’t want a coating, but don’t want glass either
  • often heat milk for several people at once
  • want to put the jug in the dishwasher
Less suitable if you
  • want to see how thick your foam gets: the jug isn’t transparent
  • want to heat baby milk: only the Digital has a setting for that
Why this price? You pay for induction heating in the base, an uncoated stainless steel jug, a digital display and a large capacity.

Digital: glass, 7 programmes and the largest capacity

Jug and lid are glass, the base stainless steel. The milk zone is uncoated, so your milk doesn’t touch a non-stick coating.

Seven programmes via the digital display: hot thick foam, hot thin foam, heating, plant-based milk, cold foam, hot chocolate and baby milk at about 37 °C. You froth up to 250 ml, enough for 3 to 4 cappuccinos, and heat up to 400 ml.

Choose the Digital if you
  • make foam for the whole family, 3 or 4 cappuccinos at a time
  • often use oat, soya or almond milk
  • want to heat baby milk
  • want a colour that suits your kitchen: beige, black, blue or pink
Less suitable if you
  • mainly want an affordable way in
Why this price? You pay for glass from lid to jug, seven programmes with a digital display, the largest capacity and four colours. That’s why it’s the most expensive model.

Frequently asked questions

Still not sure?

I can’t choose. Which one suits me?

Want the most affordable way in? Choose the Original. Want to choose the temperature yourself? Take the Plus. Want your milk to touch only glass and stainless steel and make 1 or 2 cappuccinos at a time? Choose the Crystal. Don’t want a coating and often heat a lot of milk at once? Choose the Induction. Making coffee for the whole family, using plant-based milk or want to heat baby milk? Choose the Digital.

What’s the difference between the Crystal and the Digital?

Both have a glass jug with a stainless steel base and 600 W, make hot and cold foam and go in the dishwasher. The Digital has 7 programmes instead of 5, with an extra setting for plant-based milk and a baby milk setting at about 37 °C. It also holds more milk: foam up to 250 ml and heating up to 400 ml, compared with 150 and 250 ml for the Crystal. The Digital comes in four colours.

What’s the difference between the Original and the Plus?

They cost the same. The Original is the simplest: one button, three functions and an inside with a PFAS-free non-stick coating. The Plus has four settings, you choose the temperature yourself and it keeps your milk warm for up to 30 minutes. It also froths a little more: 140 ml compared with 115 ml.

Why do you use glass?

Glass has no coating that can wear off. Your milk only touches glass and stainless steel, you can see exactly how thick your foam gets, and you can quickly rinse the smooth inside or put it in the dishwasher.

Do they work with plant-based milk?

Yes. You can make foam with oat or soya milk with every model. The Digital has its own programme for it. Tip: barista versions of plant-based milk froth best.

How many cups can I froth for at once?

Allow about 60 ml of milk per cappuccino. The Original (115 ml), the Plus (140 ml) and the Crystal (150 ml) are good for 2 cappuccinos. The Induction froths up to 200 ml (3) and the Digital up to 250 ml (3 to 4).

Can I order a spare glass jug?

Yes, for the Crystal and the Digital. The jug for the Crystal costs 34,95. The jug for the Digital costs 44,95. Handy if the jug ever breaks, or if you want a second jug for plant-based milk.

How long is the warranty?

You get a 2-year warranty from the date of purchase, on manufacturing defects under normal household use. You can return it within 60 days.
